FINAL TOUCHES
But what would a modern luxury golf course be without some jaw-dropping amenities? The main clubhouse has an open-air café (with great chilaquiles for breakfast) adjacent to a grassy area replete with a football-passing machine and goals for pickup soccer games. “Red Door” areas on the course serve as relaxation stops, with food, drink and impossibly friendly staff to ply you with tequila, quesadillas and sliders. No malo!
A footnote: Golf writer/bums like myself get to hang around some pretty swank joints for two days at a time, and are well-used to top-shelf amenities — to the point where it’s hard to be that impressed. But even I was agog while warming up at Twin Dolphin’s sea-facing driving range, where each station had four buckets of balls for one’s delectation: Bridgestones, Titleists, Callaways and TaylorMade — and the best brand each company has to offer. If I didn’t fear closed circuit television so much, I’d have returned stateside with enough premium golf balls to last a hacker a thousand rounds at the local muni.
But with Freddie’s warm smile and friendly manner etched into my consciousness, I resisted temptation and arrived back home, tanned and relaxed and wondering how I was going to make my next ten million to get back down there. Que lastima!
