The Fairway Bunker Shot
Once again this is a problem because most facilities have only deep-lipped bunkers that won’t let you hit long fairway shots, but if you can find one on the course I have a foolproof way to hit fairway bunker shots.
Take a ball and put a stripe around the center of it, unless you are on the range where you can use a range ball. You will set the stripe as the equator of the ball…this is where you will “try” to hit the ball with your club.
First, take a club or two more than normal so you don’t have to swing very hard, because losing your balance by swinging too hard is the reason you tend to hit the ball fat.
Second, aim your body a touch leftward and make an arms-only swing trying to hit the “stripe” of the ball. Most of the time you will catch the ball perfectly, but if you do indeed hit the stripe you have at least propelled the ball forward and much closer to the green than before.
