PLAY THE PROPER TEES
Abraham: Enjoyment is the number one reason most people start to play golf. Make sure you are play the correct length golf course for how far you can hit the ball. Too many senior male golfers want to play from back where they used to play, but can’t hit it far enough to enjoy playing from those tees. Don’t let your ego get in the way of having fun; play it forward.
Diffley: Play the correct tees!
Goetze-Ackerman: Play within yourself. This encompasses many things, such as what tees you play, a golf swing that fits your body, simplicity of your thoughts — golf cannot become like work — and hitting the shot you see and think you can hit vs what you think is the “correct shot” to play.
Brandon Stooksbury, Idle Hour Golf Club, Macon, Georgia: I can’t speak enough about the importance of playing the correct tee…especially as you age and swing speed drops. Unfortunately our game (and regular foursome) can sometimes be cruel when it comes to the idea of “moving up a tee,” as if it somehow means you’re no longer worthy or capable of playing the game. Don’t ever let that deter you from moving as far forward as you need to continue enjoying the game. Remember, as a general rule you’re not supposed to need a fairway wood on a par-4 to reach the green in regulation!
Vangellow: Maintain your “Spirit of the Game.” Make it OK to play less than a full round, and also shorter tees … you have earned it.
