TOM PATRI

I have never looked at the winter as an “off season” but in fact a wonderful opportunity to greatly advance both your physical as well as mental skills.
First and foremost, on the physical side get with your coach and have he/she assign several very personal swing specific drills you can be doing indoors to advance all the hard work you had done the previous summer season. Do them daily. Even 5-10 minutes. Do something daily!
With my students, mirror work, a swing fan, an Orange Whip and Speed Sticks are all examples of tools I assign for “off season” indoor work. Don’t forget to putt indoors daily.
Of course, on the physical side you should also be doing a balanced routine of both strength and flexibility work. Consult a local qualified TPI (Titleist Performance
Institute) trainer. Go on line, there is likely one in your immediate area.
On the mental side, READ! Besides Golf Tips magazine—you are a subscriber, right?—there are plenty of great sports psychology books online as well. Aside from these type of references read anything positive, anything related to a “success story.” Positive breeds positive.
