Winter is a great time to dial in your golf swing and own it.
I love doing distance drills. If my full 8 iron flies 160 yards in the air, my half swing (which is left arm parallel to the ground halfway back and right arm parallel to the ground halfway through) will produce a shot that flies half of 160, or 80 yards. Then it’s easy to plug in different distances depending on the size of the swing you make. It’s a great way to own the smaller swings which not many people practice with all of their clubs. All of these swings should be done with a minimum two-second finish hold to embed in the player’s brain. That’s effective learning.
Also, a putting mat should be used to keep the flatstick sharp. Make sure you know the length of the putt BEFORE you hit it so you match up the size of the stroke to the length of putt. When doing this drill from 3, 6, and 9 feet, the ball should just be crawling over the edge of the cup so you know you are hitting it the correct distance.
