COLOUR PATH GOLF
What’s this, a groundbreaking, intuitive teaching and learning system that doesn’t require an electrical outlet, an app or a thick instruction manual? Color Path Golf’s U.K.-born founders, Kevin Merry and John Glenn, wowed crowds at the PGA Show with their color coded system to bring visual simplicity, ease of use and value to your game.
Color Path is a new visual way of learning. Using the concept, coaches and golfers place shapes in the four primary colors on the ground to create simple, easy to follow maps. These give greater clarity to the path that the golf club should follow to hit the perfect shot.
“We use color to influence movement in the golf swing. We only reference either end of the golf club in relation to the color on the ground. We don’t talk about body parts,” Glenn says. “Yellow is our attention color; we use it for target lines. Blue? Cool and calm aspects of the swing. If we’re talking about transition, we want to see blue out of them. We use the green as ‘relax and go’ — the ‘exit half’ of the golf club, acceleration phase of the swing. And then red is speed, power and control.
“If you just work on those four colors, you get some really good power from the student. But the really powerful thing is when the students build out what they think they’re doing. It’s visual, it’s simple. People just get it.”
Teaching pros are taking notice. “They’ve long used noodles and alignment sticks, but they can put Color Path in a bag and take it anywhere with them, and do anything with it,” Glenn adds. What price can you put on something you can use in every single lesson, and you don’t need batteries? It just works.”
The products in the Color Path range are all supported by an extensive online library of drills, games and lesson plans for coaches and consumers. Merry has created five different putting drills for one yellow strip alone. And there are 20 more on the way, with a library of over 300 drills in production for use with a full set.
Added Merry at the PGA Show, “We have known for a relatively long time that our concept is powerful and effective, but this week we have seen our peers experience that lightbulb moment which tells us, and them, that we have struck on something that has the power to change golf forever. This time next year, if everything goes to plan, our product will have been in the hands of coaches and golfers all over the world, which is an incredible feeling. This is just the beginning for us and the future for us and for golf is looking extremely bright.”
