Thus far in 2023, golf participation, equipment sales and private club memberships have maintained their collective momentum gained over the past three years. In other words, golf has been economically resilient, weather-proof and mostly unaffected by trends that many thought might render it a flash in the pan a while back. Okay, enough with the heavy speaking. Let’s have some fun and look at a few summer options for golf gear, goodies and even a non-traditional country club membership that’s all the rage in the Sunshine State.
OnCore’s Encore
OnCore Golf has been the leading direct-to-consumer golf ball brand for over a decade. Its patented, perimeter-weighted golf balls have completely upended the industry as they’ve outperformed many of the “big name” brands in independent testing. OnCore recently released the VERO X2, a four-piece, 95-compression ball that’s quickly making a name for itself on the Korn Ferry and PGA TOURs via brand ambassador Erik Compton. Last year, OnCore launched “Club OnCore,” a totally new concept in the “DTC” world that provides members with free shipping, customization, sitewide discounts and partner deals for an annual fee. And just for joining, they even receive free balls and merch.
Summer is prime buddy trip time for many golfers who are simply not able to get away as easily during the spring and fall months. For those hopping planes to their dream destinations, the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian is the gold standard when it comes to travel covers. Remarkably, it was awarded Golf Digest’s “Editors Choice” for Travel Bags 2016-2022 and has scored numerous accolades in 2023. Dense foam padding through the top of the bag protects clubs while the leg mechanism supports the weight of the bag. The pivoting wheels are key, making the ClubGlider a cinch to maneuver around crowded airports.
Golf shoes and the summer golf season were incompatible with each other for decades. The summer is hot and humid. Golf shoes were heavy, thick and unbendable. Enter TRUE linkswear a few years back. The company, based in Tacoma, Wash., was founded by PGA TOUR standout Ryan Moore and his brother Jason. At the time, Jason was caddying for Ryan and the duo was walking many miles every week around the country and suffering from sore feet. This led to the launch of TRUE, which today crafts an amazing collection of walking-focused, spikeless golf shoes that are so comfortable, they’re worn on and off the course. The All Day Knit 3 is a top seller in the summer. It features a minimalist design and a breathable, one-piece upper that forms to golfers’ foot shapes.
It’s rare these days that any product, much less a golf product, can claim to be “first to market” in a specific industry. But that’s exactly what Radmor Golf has done. The Seattle-based brand helmed by Scott Morrison and Bob Conrad is the first in the golf industry to eliminate the use of “virgin” polyester at the garment level. Moreover, Radmor has also reduced the amount of recycled ocean polyester and recycled nylon to just 10%, almost unheard of in the apparel business. This summer, Morrison and Conrad are offering more than ever, especially in the polo category. The cool, sporty and styling Taylor Cap Stripe, Douglas Stadium Pique and Hudson Attack Mode offerings are made from extra-long staple cotton that’s biodegradable.
The Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina are within easy driving distance of hundreds of thousands of people in the Southeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. Have-clubs-will-travel types will be delighted to learn that Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure is a cinch to access off I-40, but also feels like it’s a world away from the hustle and bustle of the proverbial “real world.” Apple Valley is the lead course, a 6,800-yard masterpiece from Dan Maples, son of designer Ellis Maples. It plays remarkably stable given its mountain setting but features plenty of elevation changes and views. Bald Mountain is the older, more traditional mountain-style course crafted by George Cobb protégé W.B. Lewis. Golfers enjoy on-course villas that are perfect for groups looking for comfort and convenience.
Most private golf clubs in Sun Belt markets from coast to coast are currently full and only accepting new members on waitlists. It’s incredible how the market has changed over the past three years. For those looking to join a club this summer, a few creatively available options are out there. The Club at Olde Cypress in Naples, Fla., recently sold out its full golf membership category for its P.B. Dye designed award winner. However, it still offers an Associate Golf Membership with the same full privileges during the off-season from May through October and a set number of golf rounds during the peak season. The “AGM” grants unlimited golf course use for six months for cart fee only and unrestricted use of the practice facilities year-round. Tee times are available two days in advance – more than ample given the limited number of members utilizing the club during that span. During the peak season (November through April), AGMs are allotted 12 tee times for a reduced green and cart fee.
Ordering dad’s Father’s Day gifts last minute is so 2022. Knock it out way ahead of time this year for a little peace of mind. After all, we know golf gear is what he really wants, right? Here at Golf Tips, we’re making it even easier for you with a few suggestions to get the golf ball rolling. Here we go.
TRUE linkswear LUX Tour
Now that peak golf season is here, TRUE has launched its exciting new “Tour Collection” featuring the highly-anticipated LUX Tour and OG Tour golf shoes, the premium LUX Tour Polo Tour Logo Edition and midweight Quarter Zip Tour Logo Edition, and (last but not least) the breathable LUX Tech Tour 5-Panel Hat. Simply put, the Moore brothers are providing golfers with an intriguing mix of high-performance, stylish options for the golf season. The LUX Tour shoe is TRUE’s take on the modern performance golf shoe designed to the rigorous standards of its PGA TOUR staff, including co-founder Ryan Moore, Joel Dahmen and Chris Kirk. And building on the legacy of the LUX Pro, it boasts subtle-yet-significant improvements to style, quality, fit and function, according to TRUE’s designers.
OnCore is a direct-to-consumer golf ball brand based in Buffalo, N.Y. that’s made a name for itself via its unique perimeter-weighted construction that leads to longer, straighter shots. Just ask Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, a major investor and brand ambassador, or Korn Ferry Tour player and ambassador Erik Compton. For Father’s Day, OnCore is offering three different dad-loving logo balls, as well as a buy two dozen, get a dozen free special on any of its five balls: VERO X1, VERO X2, ELIXR, ELIXR 2022 and AVANT 55. There’s plenty of other father-friendly gear available, including t-shirts, hats, tees and gloves.
RADMOR Golf’s spring and summer golf apparel line is available in men’s and women’s collections featuring its environmentally friendly polos, shorts and layering. The Seattle-based brand leans hard into the new golf season with vibrant color pops of True Blue, Wisteria, Glacier and Cloudy Blue. The men’s line is highlighted by a host of new polos, including the Taylor Recycled Floral Drip and Crosby Reverb Ultralight, Vincent and Five-O Knit Performance Shorts (hey, it’s spring, after all). Colton ¼ Zips, Higgins Hoodies and Perkins Crew Sweatshirts in an array of new colors and patterns are standing by for those areas that still have crisp mornings and late afternoons. For toasty hot regions, shirts like the aforementioned Crosby Reverb Ultralight keep golfers nice and cool from dusk till dawn.
No one’s gotten more mileage out of his clubs over the years than dad. Chances are that those same sticks are still stashed in the garage, basement or trunk. That makes this the perfect year to get him squared away with a full new set. No brand makes this easier, or more enjoyable, than PXG. All fitting locations are listed and searchable on the website. And PXG now offers the most expansive variety of irons, hybrids, drivers, fairway woods and putters in the company’s storied history. Or, if you know what dad needs and want him swinging new clubs on Father’s Day, PXG also offers an array of “Full Bag Deals” available directly online. The ordering process and customer service overall are first-rate.
Sun Mountain’s PX3 and PX4 pushcarts are a huge hit with members of #pushcartmafia. Offering a myriad of improvements to the company’s past Pathfinder models, the PX4 is hands down one the best four-wheelers on the market today. It features awesome advancements like a new handle and accessory tray while retaining the main benefits of a smaller folded size and easy opening. Retail prices for the PX3 and PX4 are $249 and $259, respectively. Additional enhancements on both models we tested and loved include a continuous handle for pushing with one hand, an accessory console that holds balls, tees, scorecard and mobile phone, a mobile phone holder with a slot for a charging plug, dual umbrella holders, and a mesh basket and velour-lined pouch for additional storage. Pro tip: order the cushy vertical cooler that straps onto the cart and holds up to six canned beverages.
PeakVision was founded back in 1997 by J. Paul Moore, who studied the eyewear industry for four years before developing PeakVision’s “Dual-Zone” lens prototype. Moore’s goal with the sophisticated technology was actually simple: end all optical distortion in sports, especially golf, which typically entails more than four hours outdoors in the sunshine. David and Nicholas Feaser acquired the company in 2017 and have doubled down on the company’s commitment to the game. PeakVision’s Dual-Zone lens are 20% neutral gray on the upper section for UV protection and 60% lower contrast amber on the lower section to enhance clarity, especially when it comes to reading greens. Several different golf-focused models are available to fit a variety of different-sized heads and faces.
The company’s premium golf shoelaces are available in more than 70 colors and patterns. Made in the USA from ultra-durable poly-nylon weave with an appropriate amount of stretch, Whiskers laces feature high-grade aglets that withstand tough conditions and are slim-wrapped to fit skinny eyelets. On any given tournament week, Whiskers golf laces are worn by more than 75 PGA and LPGA Tour players and their caddies in FootJoy, Adidas, Nike, Puma, ECCO and other leading shoe brands. Amateur golfers also match laces with their shirts, hats, belts, pants and shoes, adding color pop and personality to wardrobes. Single pairs ($15), three packs ($40) and “fivers” ($60).
A golf gift idea for the dad who has everything … almost everything … private club membership. The Club at Olde Cypress recently sold out its full golf membership category. However, the club still offers an “Associate Golf Membership” that affords the same full privileges during the off-season from May through October as well as a set number of golf rounds during the peak season. The AGM grants unlimited use of the golf course for those six months for cart fee only and unrestricted use of the practice facilities year-round. Tee times are available two days in advance – more than ample given the limited number of members utilizing the club during that span. During the peak season (November through April), AGMs are allotted 12 tee times for a reduced green and cart fee. Champion Hills in Hendersonville, N.C. has a limited number of full golf memberships available. Tom Fazio’s original Tar Heel State home course is going strong with beautiful bentgrass greens and views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Golf is played year-round at Champion Hills, unlike so many other Western N.C. private clubs that close for the winter.
Now that peak golf season is here, TRUE has launched its exciting new “Tour Collection” featuring the highly-anticipated LUX Tour and OG Tour golf shoes, the premium LUX Tour Polo Tour Logo Edition and midweight Quarter Zip Tour Logo Edition, and the breathable LUX Tech Tour 5-Panel Hat. Simply put, TRUE is providing golfers with an intriguing mix of high-performance, stylish options for the golf season.
“The Tour Collection was tailored around the needs of our Tour staff,” says TRUE CEO Jason Moore. “Through feedback from players like Joel Dahmen, Mark Hubbard and Chris Kirk we’ve been able to continue to elevate the premium nature of our footwear and apparel via countless upgrades and aesthetic improvements. The Tour Collection is our take on the fit, performance and style of a modern Tour player.”

It’s not spring until RADMOR Golf says it’s spring. Or at least that’s how co-founders Scott Morrison and Bob Conrad joke it out. The nearly lifelong friends and teammates on the University of Washington men’s golf team in the 90s are ready to take on the new year in a big way.
“We’re a Pacific Northwest-based brand at heart but we can’t help but feel like our plight is a global one – make fashionable golf clothing with an unwavering commitment to sustainability,” says Morrison.
RADMOR, which Morrison describes as a “golf lifestyle brand crafting on and off-course apparel from meticulously-curated, all-natural and recycled materials,” just dropped its spring 2023 line. The “New Beginnings Collection,” as it’s dubbed, features new colors, styles, patterns and materials with the same unwavering commitment to sustainability in golf fashion.
New Beginnings, available in men’s and women’s capsules, leans hard into the new golf season with vibrant color pops of True Blue, Wisteria, Glacier and Cloudy Blue. The men’s line is highlighted by a host of new polos, including the Taylor Recycled Floral Drip and Crosby Reverb Ultralight, Vincent and Five-O Knit Performance Shorts (hey, it’s spring, after all). Colton ¼ Zips, Higgins Hoodies and Perkins Crew Sweatshirts in an array of new colors and patterns are standing by for those crisp mornings and late afternoons.
RADMOR continues to expand its offerings for women, and the 2023 New Beginnings Collection features the new Hannah Pleated and Yesler Skorts, Michele Block Stretch Polo, Olivia GEORAD Long Sleeve and Sleeveless shirts, Olivia Cap Strip Long Sleeve, Mila Deep V Sleeveless Shirt and the Lauren Cap Stripe Polo. Also new for 2023 are a host of RADMOR accessories like the Dead Center RadCap Trucker Hat in show white and true blue, and two-packs of RADSOCKS made from cellulose, recycled nylon and elastane.
RADMOR’s sustainably-sourced golf clothing forgoes virgin polyester in favor of natural cellulose fibers like Peruvian Pima cotton, elastane yarns, and super-soft Tencel and recycled REPREVE to create the most environmentally minded golf apparel in the industry. Fabrics in 2023’s collections include RADMOR’s flagship 96% ELS Cotton 4% Elastane blend, its ultra-light 100% Pima, an organic Pima with recycled polyester/stretch blend, and an all-new certified recycled REPREVE blend designed for fans of synthetic fabrics.
RADMOR Renaissance
In February 2021, Scott Morrison and Bob Conrad launched RADMOR. The college roommates and golf teammates at the University of Washington first discussed changing the face of golf apparel in the mid-90s, and today that vision is finally a reality. After graduating from the “U-Dub,” Conrad played golf professionally and still maintains a plus handicap. Supplying serious fashion “street cred,” Morrison was behind three of America’s top denim brands – Paper Denim & Cloth, 3×1 Denim and Earnest Sewn – and is widely considered a thought leader in the design world.
Taylor Cap Stripe
The dynamic duo’s passion for the harmonic convergence of fashion and performance is evident in subtle design treatments such as RADMOR’s MORE/EROM (Extended Range of Motion) underarm pattern prominently featured in golf shirts, layering pieces, and outerwear. Functional-yet-fun details like a signature “ball pocket” can also be found on outerwear, pants and shorts. RADMOR is defined by its commitment to using natural fibers and reducing our environmental impact while producing the highest quality golf apparel possible.
“RADMOR” is a playful blend of Morrison and Conrad’s last names and represents the brand’s dichotomy. Its secondary logo, “BobRad,” is a whimsical cartoon golf ball peering out of a golf hole that aims to bring golf to those who find the sport a bit too stuffy. Meanwhile, RADMOR’s “serious golf side” is reflected in its “Dead Center” ball and cup logo that appears throughout most of its collections and appeals to its green grass partners at high-end clubs and resorts.
In addition to its direct-to-consumer sales channel, RADMOR is available at a growing number of golf shops throughout the U.S. and Nordstrom stores nationwide, as well as Golf.com, Huckberry.com, TrendyGolf.com, FairwayStyles.com, Nordstrom.com and Saksfifthavenue.com. RADMOR has a concept shop in Seattle at 607 1st Avenue in Pioneer Square.
