Bridgestone Tour B JGR Clubs
Known primarily for their golf balls, Bridgestone Golf is no slouch in the club department. The next generation of its popular JGR club lines — driver, fairway metals, hybrids and either the graphite-shafted, wide-soled HF1 game improvement irons or steel-shafted, low-to-mid-handicapper HF2 irons — provide maximum performance for a variety of golfers. The lines are already garnering attention from PGA TOUR superstars, as Bridgestone Golf staff players Matt Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker replaced their former drivers with the TOUR B JGR model earlier this summer.
The driver, fairway wood and hybrid models were engineered with Bridgestone’s Power Mill Face Design, producing low spin and stabilizing the ball at impact to increase quality compression time. Additionally, Boost Wave Crown technology creates internal and external channels that allow the crown to flex at impact for a higher initial launch and ball speed. Golf Tips testing of a 9.5-degree driver, 15-degree 3-metal, 18-degree 5-metal and 22-degree hybrid revealed a suite of long game winners that produce what we’ll call “easy distance” — swing within yourself and let the sticks reward you with penetrating, low-spin ball flight and, with the higher-lofted clubs, impressive workability.
Two new JGR iron sets are also packed with innovation. The forged HF2 line offers a cavity back design with an ultrathin face that promotes exceptional distance, while the heads include a rubber polymer insert to enhance feel, reduce vibration, and ensure crisp sound at impact. For higher handicap players, the HF1 irons feature a thick, hollow cavity design — essentially a hybrid that provides easy launching distance in an extremely low COG forged head. Variable face thickness provides responsive feedback on hits across the face. While the pumped-up lofts through the bag take some getting used to — the 5-iron is really a standard 4-iron, the 9-iron is an 8-iron and the pitching wedges are split into “P1” and “P2” versions with lofts of 38 and 44 degrees — they are an absolutely joy to swing, especially for players prone to a big curve in either direction. They tend to guard against the extreme hook or slice thanks to serious stability at impact and smooth, shock-free response from the stock UST Mamiya Recoil graphite shaft. All clubs are finished with a custom yellow Golf Pride grip.
