WILSON STAFF D7 IRONS & DRIVER
I’ve been staring at Wilson Golf logos since I was a wee hacker, and maintain a fondness for their classic, unfussy look, from typography to design philosophy. Second that emotion when it comes to their new D7 Irons, a black-and-chrome distance iron that doesn’t have the bulky look that screams “super game-improvement” club! The cavity is a little more pronounced for more MOI, and a concealed offset common to this category, yet clean-looking and sleek to the naked eye. Add Wilson’s face-flex tech called RE-AKT, meaning straighter and longer strikes, especially in the longer irons. The Wilson D7 Driver provides yardage horsepower of an entirely different color, an ultra-lightweight big stick (192 gram head-weight!) that innovates shape- and sound-wise in impressive fashion. Borrowing from their legendary tennis client Roger Federer, whose use of a Kevlar braid to dampen vibration is decades-old now, the D7 produces a loud but pleasing pop upon impact, despite the lightweight crown design and thinner steel alloy face design. Available in 9, 10.5 and 13-degree lofts, with the internal weighting shifting from front to back in each. Make sure to get fitted to suit your clubhead speed! At 200 bucks cheaper than other drivers, this one’s worth a hard look.
