CALLAWAY SUPER HYBRID
Okay, I’ve been waiting for this here club since the advent of the hybrid/rescue club around the turn of the last century. Callaway CEO Chip Brewer sent his white-coated lab boys an edict to make a bona fide fairway wood inhabit the same space that a hybrid usually occupies. The resultant Super Hybrid is 143 cubic centimeters larger than its forebears, but with a titanium body/face and carbon composite crown that frees up a mess of mass for the clubhead. Translation: a lower center of gravity and far more stability on inevitable off-center hits.
Add Callaway’s “jailbreak” flexing (as with the Epic Flash driver) and expect big distance from the thin titanium face. The eight-way, adjustable hosel makes it eminently loft-tweakable, from 16 to 25 degrees. Hybrid shape, fairway-wood power – not a bad one-two punch.
